Why would he take his gun but no coat is a major event in Chapter 9 - North.
Overview[]
When arriving in Vladivostok, a Legionnaire informs you that Captain Langer has already left the train. The rest of the soldiers seem unsurprised hearing this, and a letter is handed to you. Langer informs you through it that the Vladivostok fortress must be taken and held against the raiding Reds.
Finished with the letter, the soldiers assure you of their readiness unanimously. They don't know what Langer had yet planned to do.
You may decide to search Langer's cabin, but you find the Captain nowhere. His belongings are tidy and neatly placed, but his gun is missing.
Walkthrough[]
Into the fray[]
As tasked by Langer: the fort of Vladivostok must be captured to ensure your safe sail away. Vlaštibor also tells you about two major sources of aid: General Korolev and his White Army battalion, as well as the local resistance of the civilians. Both can be contacted for some additional help.
Love thy neighbour[]
The civilian commander is in a southeastern district of the city. Start marching along the road, eliminating mostly small squads of Reds on the way. Apart from an officer, all enemies are infantry, who can be picked off from long range and careful positioning. Machine guns and automatic rifles, as well as well-positioned Scouts with Death Zone prove devastating to the enemy ranks.
When you reach the local civilian, he will entrust you with the delivery of a truck in the western part of the city, fearing that these supplies will just attract the Reds on their families.
Express delivery[]
Backtrack almost to the point where you started off, and head northwest. You will find a few Red patrols on the way, who you should eliminate with the might of your squad. You should also find a repair kit by one of the storage areas. Follow your troops with the truck and eventually you will reach a warehouse where you can drop off the truck. A local will gift you Explosives from a nearby stash, allowing you to approach the fort from an alternate area.
Civilians will also randomly take up arms and methodically sweep some of the areas, reducing the patrolling squads around Vladivostok City.
White surge[]
Captain Korolev's unit is in the eastern part of the city. Go straight in his general direction, but before contacting his battalion, check out an abandoned marketplace about southeast to him, where assorted pickups lie around. Claim them and then approach the White soldiers.
You may encounter a sizable patrol with an Armored Car. Dispose of the car with some well-placed Critical Shots, then retreat to cover to pick off the rest of the soldiers.
Answering the call[]
Korolev's White soldier welcomes your squad and they inform you that despite the official branding of the Legion as an enemy, they have no intention to follow the order. However, Ilariy Belov and his contingent is poised to come and march on your position, in the name of the Tzar and Russia.
The enemy will approach from the northeast with about 15 soldiers and a Heavy Tank with Belov commandeering it. While most of the soldiers can be quickly dispatched, the tank will boast considerable armor and it will prove hard to chew through. The best strategy seems to be hit-and-run just outside the tank's range, as the enemy infantry will rush forward into the meat grinder.
Eventually the tank will reach Korolev's ranks and start pummeling the barricades with shells. Grab all of your squad and attack the tank from behind or the sides, from the cover of the buildings. Critical Shots and machine gun fire can slowly chip the armor until it is destroyed. The moment the tank fires at your troops, quickly withdraw from sight. Korolev's Whites should be able to draw attention again for you to finish the job.
As Belov departs this world, Korolev thanks you for your support and lends you two of his soldiers, over whom you have control now.
Open wide[]
Head to the marker where the local men advised you to infiltrate. This route leads uphill into the side of the fort, bypassing about two lines of defence. Spot a scaffolding where you can use your Explosives. After you are done creating a breach, grab a soldier and covertly dispose of the lone patrols. There will also be a Field Gun and a Heavy Machine Gun just behind; eliminate these stealthily, or from cover.
All quiet on the eastern front[]
In the very end of the fort there is a capture point, where an officer and a few soldiers linger about. Dispose of the small patrols on the elevated positions, then attack with all your men in the front, with one of them manning the lone heavy MG at some sandbags. The enemy will be lacking cover, so just position yourself well and you will clear the area.
Take effort to grab all assets that can be manned, most noticeably a Field Howitzer and a Light Tank. Capture the control point.
Gathering storm[]
You get 2 minutes to prepare your defences. The enemy has three vectors to attack from:
- the northeast, where the cutscene shows the enemy camp with artillery
- the southeast, from the front of the star fort
- the south, where a portcullis is closed.
Position your troops accordingly, with the portcullis getting the lightest defense, and the other two areas the heavier guard. Park the tank near the southeast, where the howitzer cannot aim. Direct the howitzer to bombard the outskirts of the northeastern breach.
Becoming legends[]
Your men will need to hold the fort for 5 minutes. After the timer expires, you complete the mission!
Initially, attacks come from the northeast and southeast, but later the portcullis will also open, giving way for a third entry point. Also, right from the outset and 2:30 left on the clock, Vlaštibor will notify you of enemy aircraft detecting the troops and artillery will commence prolonged bombardment on the entryway to the control point, with a possible chance to hit the Howitzer. Make sure your troops are never caught in the vicinity of the area. If the howitzer is destroyed, evacuate.
The following attack patterns will come:
- Northeast: a squad of soldiers
- Southeast: a squad of soldiers, with an Officer present
- Northeast: two Armored Cars, assorted infantry, two Light Tank and a Heavy Tank
Aftermath[]
Last Ship Home[]
Your soldiers hold against all chance. The gunfire and the explosions soon cease, as your soldiers come to realise: the Reds lost the city. The Legionnaires make way through bombardment, eventually clearing the harbour area.
The Legionnaires board the ship with various belongings and luggages. As you step out on the front of the ship, you notice Captain Langer in his coat, puffing a pipe. You gaze into each other's eyes reading emotions before the ship takes sail and leaves Vladivostok for ever.
Eventually, the Legion's soldiers find their way home and get dropped off at various locations. Langer himself finds solace in writing, dedicating his first fiction to the Major, who brought him and his comrades home.
