The Young and Restless is an optional combat mission in Chapter 5, found near Krutologovo.
Briefing[]
At Kuruganovo Station, a local boy runs up to the Legionnaires, telling how his nearby village is constantly kept under terror from the Red Army's artillery day and night, sending raids against the village. As the boy is interrogated, he grows increasingly weary and incoherent from the interrogation.
The village must be saved from the Reds' pressure.
Walkthrough[]
Combing the forest (2.250 XP)[]
Your squad sets out in a narrow and winding hillside trail, with plentiful foliage on either side. Follow the trail to find a small watchtower sentry and a rifleman with a patrol dog. They can be easily taken out, but it is also possible to sneak past them using the tall grass.
The trail soon stops in a small clearing on the hilltop, where a small Red camp can be found with a capturable watchtower. Four soldiers loiter around: they should be disposed of in order to progress.
Another road leads down the hill. Capturing the watchtower or scouting forward along the road reveals the village.
Words of Wisdom (1.500 XP)[]
The eastern side of the settlement is now revealed. Simply move up with your squad and enter the village to meet with the prior.
Be their shield (9.000 XP)[]
Now the main part of the mission takes place, as the village elder informs you about the Reds' constant aggression, as well as the possibility to take a detour and flank them from an alternate path to the southeast. He provides your squad a repair kit so that you can repair a bridge and use a somewhat desolate trail to the enemy backdoor. Pick up the containers lying around.
You will find that there is a main bridge with assorted cover. Order some troops - preferably MG with deployed weaponry, or Scouts - to take cover near the rocks to overlook the narrow pathway, while a smaller squad follows the route the Elder mentioned. Don't go further for additional covers: a Field Gun and Heavy Machine Gun monitors the area.
The enemy will send small squads to challenge your position; your prepared defenders should have no problem driving them back. The enemy artillery may have limited success hitting your troops, however in hard cover they should be able to take about two shots. Try healing them with a Medic between attacks.
Note: If you stall until the second attack, the enemy will eventually use long-ranged weapons, dialing in an impending attack in 3 minutes. This time should be enough for your hillside squad to clear the camp.
Trainee carpenter (3.750 XP)[]
Repair the bridge and eliminate the lone Rifleman loitering about. Just behind him is a lone Machine Gunner to take out, then the trail with the foliage goes downward. From there, you can see that the Reds set up camp right under some natural formations, along with a Field Howitzer.
Let the hatchet fall (5.250 XP)[]
Due to the densely camping soldiers, taking out the contingent can prove tricky. Two Critical Shots from Scouts can eliminate the howitzer, greatly decreasing the enemy firepower and removing further artillery strikes. About 6-8 Red soldiers will be alerted, but they can be increasingly worn down by your hillside squad.
Just in the heart of the camp, a Red Officer can be found alone. If you haven't alerted him, you will have no trouble eliminating him. His death will trigger all remaining Red soldiers to run for their life, leaving the area.
The village area and the rear of the Red's former camp become exit areas: simply exit the mission with your soldiers.
Aftermath[]
Although the attacks are finally over, the villagers are determined to pack and move, as the village has been left almost unusable, having been transformed into a forest of barricades. As a man asks your soldiers how you have found them, they mention the man's son and he commends his bravery. A cache of resources are shown to you and you get 50 Fuel, 2 Chauchat machine guns and 100 MG ammo.
