Major (initially referred to as Captain) is an unnamed protagonist of Last Train Home. He is an officer of Czechoslovak Legion.

Story[]

Under Major Gazdík[]

He starts as an ambitious Captain serving under Major Gazdík. Gazdík leads group of Czechoslovak legionaries on a way to Vladivostok on an armoured train. During opening mission he is seen talking with Major Gazdík who heard that Captain bragged that he would be a better Major than Gazdík. Gazdík wants to see how Captain would do when commanding soldiers and sends him with a squad to a nearby Mill to get supplies. Captain finds out that the mill was burned by Reds and local Miller was killed along with his children. Only Miller's mother was left alive. Legionaries then set up to Moscow to meet Captain Langer. Langer negotiates with bolsheviks a passage to Vladivostok so that Legionaries could get home.

On their way legionaries meet Red Army general Morozov and his units. It initially seems that battle will occur as Morozov asks Legionaries to hand their weapons over which Gazdík refuses. Morozov eventually lets Legionaries go. Legionaries then arrive to Sukhinichi where a fight with Reds occurs but Captain and his soldiers fight them off. Legionaries can continue to Moscow.

Legionaries arrive to Moscow but their train is destroyed when Reds hit it with their train. Gazdík then meets Morozov who is commander of local Red Army. Morozov demands Legionaries to give up their weapons which Gazdík refuses once again. Morozov then shoots Gazdík and shootout ensues. Dying Gazdík commands Captain to lead remaining legionaries and find Captain Langer. Captain and others manage to find Langer and steal another train but Morozov escapes. Legionaries escape from Moscow with their new train.

From Moscow to Penza[]

Captain is promoted to Major afterwards and becomes new commander of armoured train heading to Vladivostok. Czechoslovak Provisional Government sends new orders to legionaries - get to Vladivostok so that the can be evacuated from Russia through sea. They are also prohibited from intevening in fight between Reds and Whites. Train heads to Penza for further orders.

Between Moscow and Penza train doesn't come across many obstacles and depending of players choices legionaries can help Chernobaevo village and destroy Red Army training camp.

When the train arrives to Penza, the city is already taken by Red Army. Provisional Government is negotiating passage but with no success. This leaves Major and his men no choice but to confront local Red garrison that is barricaded in local Cathedral. Major and his men manage to deafeat Reds and get passage through Penza.

Afterwards Major must make a decision as there are two railroads ahead. Southern railroad connects Penza through Chelyabinsk to Omsk. He notes that several trains went this path but not all have reported back to Provisional Government suggesting that they might have broken down or been ambushed. If Major chooses this path he can find out what happened to them. Northern route on the other hand leads through Yekaterinburg to Omsk. There are White Army battalions stationed there which could improve chances of avoiding conforntation with Reds. Its also possible that if some Legionaries taken this route they could be saved. Overall northern route is safer. Depending on player's choice, Major and his crew heads through northern railroad or southern railroad.

Trivia[]

  • The game itself doesn't reveal his nationality as he doesn't have speaking lines. It can be presumed he is Czech or Slovak. Czech nationality seems more likely due to the fact that game doesn't include Slovak localisation and authors of the game come from the Czech Republic.
