A miracle or nothing is an optional combat mission in Chapter 8 - North.

Briefing[]

Approaching Bochkarevka, Captain Langer reports that both the Reds and the Whites consider the Legion an enemy, officially, and that Pergler must be found at all costs. He advises a silent approach so as to not raise the enemies' attention, most faithfully to Pergler.

On the station, a civilian rushes to the Train and quickly leads the Legionnaires to Pergler's place of hiding.

Walkthrough[]

Waiting for a miracle (7,500 XP)[]

Not among friends (15,000 XP)[]

Your soldiers start off on a river bank. You can see a railroad cutting the map in half: on its right there is a village area with heavy enemy presence and multiple Alarm Bells; on the left there is a frozen swamp with scattered sentries. Pergler is found in the middle of the map.

This mission is initially about stealth, as Pergler must be reached in order to be safely extracted from the town. A straightforward route is west to the rail tracks, where a few sentries and a pack of wolves can be circumvented by a lone soldier. Try fishing for individual soldiers by running out and in bushes, getting their attention, then finishing them off in cover. If you thin their numbers out enough, you can even attempt to dismantle the nearby alarm bells.

Against all forms of tyranny (19,000 XP)[]

Reaching Pergler shouldn't be a difficult task. If you want to do a little more covert operation however, you could go around the perimeter and capture a watchtower just east to him. The tower will reveal a few Reds threatening to execute some civilians; eliminate them for some additional experience.

A rifleman will come in to retake the watchtower: eliminate him after he has arrived.

Hope is everything (30,000 XP)[]

You can continue clearing the areas, dismantling Alarm Bells and eventually take control of the neighborhoods by force, so you can get a few more pickups, or just continue towards Pergler. When you reach him, he will reveal himself and tell you that he has important documents for you.

You must reach the train station and go around it to extract with the diplomat. You can see an additional watchtower that can be captured, and a small squad running maintenance on a steam locomotive. Eliminate them and seize the watchtower. Controlling it will trigger two riflemen to investigate from outside the map; intercept them too.

Continue along the rail tracks until you reach the station. Sneak when no one is looking and go around the freight cars, using the foliage to possibly eliminate enemies on the way. Optionally, you can gradually grab enemy soldiers' attention and pick them off outside the detection range of their comrades.

If you succeed in dismantling the alarm bell on one of the platforms, then you can no longer fail the side mission. Overpower the soldiers in the hospital tent and around the station, minding the artillery barrage that periodically carpets the rail tracks in the northwest. Pick everything up you can and exit the area.

Aftermath[]

As you manage to leave the battered town behind, Pergler reconsiders. He tells you that even though he feels delighted by the founding of the new Czechoslovak state, he can't leave with the Legion, as he has a loved one, Ahava to marry with before leaving for Czechoslovakia at a later time. She is revealed to have sent his letter to the Legionnaires, and Pergler hands a box with his personal seal over.
